TERMS

Terms of use

The short, human version of the rules. Lucent is free software; these terms say what you can expect from it — and what stays your responsibility.

Last updated: 17 October 2026

1. What these terms cover

These terms apply to the Lucent app for Android and Windows (the "App") and to this website (the "Site"). Lucent is developed by Jessica Martinez (the "developer"). By downloading, installing or using the App, or by using the Site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use them.

2. License

The Lucent source code is released under the MIT License. The LICENSE file in the repository is the authoritative text: as long as the copyright notice and the license text accompany any copy or substantial portion of the code, you may use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense and sell it. Third-party components keep their own licenses; see the third-party notices file in the repository.

3. Official downloads

Official builds are published ONLY on the project's GitHub Releases page. This Site provides a high-speed mirror download of the LATEST STABLE build only. Preview (pre-release) builds are for testing and may be unstable. Only the release marked "Latest" is the stable version. Builds from anywhere else are not from the developer and may have been altered.

4. Your data, your responsibility

Lucent keeps your notes, tasks, attachments, settings and keys on your own device, encrypted. There is no Lucent account and no Lucent server (see the Privacy Policy), so the developer cannot read your data and cannot recover it for you.

You are responsible for the security of your device, for your app-lock password and backup password (a forgotten password cannot be recovered by anyone), and for keeping backups you can restore from. Exported files are not encrypted.

5. The assistant and third-party services

The assistant is optional. If you connect a cloud model, web search, WebDAV storage, GitHub or any other service, you do so with your own accounts and keys, directly from your device. Those services are run by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies, may cost money, and may change or stop working; the developer is not a party to them and is not responsible for them.

What the assistant writes can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check it before you rely on it.

6. Actions you approve

The assistant can create, edit and delete notes, tasks and files — and, if you switch on the relevant tools and permissions, run commands, use Git or operate your device. By default it asks you first. You are responsible for what you approve and for the permissions you grant: don't grant access you aren't comfortable with, and keep backups.

7. Acceptable use

Use Lucent and the Site lawfully. Don't use the App to violate other people's rights or the terms of the services you connect it to, don't try to disrupt, probe or overload the Site or the project's GitHub infrastructure, and don't present modified builds as official ones.

8. No warranty

As the MIT License says, Lucent is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It is free software made by one developer, not a guaranteed service: it may contain bugs, and features may change or be removed.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any claim, damages or other liability — including lost data, lost notes, or anything an assistant or a connected service does — arising from your use of the App or the Site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or any consumer rights you have that cannot be waived.

10. Changes to these terms

These terms may change from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last updated, and earlier versions are visible in the Site's repository history. If you keep using Lucent after an update, you accept the updated terms.
